Lucky Charms: Day 48

Finally Colors

Lots of crazy colorness going on in today’s picture. I think it’s all the Lucky Charms I’ve been eating today. I’m literally eating some white I write this. Well, not exactly as I’m writing this. More like eating until I figure out what to write, and then going back to eating afterwards. Yeah.

Colors! Thanks to my sister, I got some new paper today. It’s acid free paper that seems really good for colored pencils so far. Not too grainy, not too glossy. I’m no paper expert, but I’m pretty sure I picked out the perfect sketchbook for my needs. Today’s picture turned out great at least

Besides the Lucky Charms, I’m not really sure what I was thinking exactly while I was drawing this. It kind of just happened naturally. Drawing shapes, overlapping shapes, then using pen and eventually coloring them. Then I went ahead and did some shapes in the background too. The photo doesn’t do it justice, not really. I could do some Photoshop editing but, meh. It looks really bright when seen with the naked eye. The colors really pop (hate that term, but whatever) with the black in the background and the black pen outlines for each shape.

Anyways, probably more sketchbook stuff tomorrow. I’ll try to do an actual character or something maybe. Or try my hand at those retro video game title screens I’ve still yet to do. Or edit yesterday’s Halloween card! I have lots of options.

Carving Shapes: Day 46

Early Emergence

I kinda surprised myself. I was just trying to figure out what I wanted to draw for my daily drawing. Then decided to go with something on Photoshop as I was already using it today. Then this kinda happened. The detail is awesome!

I was just drawing some blackness, then carving it out with the eraser into shapes. They kind of looked like arms so I kept drawing different things. I then made the decision that the blackness up top was the ground. Yuppers, ground on the top of the page there. So it’s now going to be dirt and we’re going to have lots of things reaching out of it! Should be awesome. I dunno, we’ll see what happens!

I’ll keep working on it over the next few days or so. It’s going to turn out to be a Halloween inspired piece. Pretty cool. You’ll definitely need to click for the full sized image to really see what’s going on.

Abstract Flower: Day 44

"Night" created by Robert Chapman

I have no clue what this is supposed to be exactly. For awhile there it was looking a bit like an abstract rose. However, that wasn’t my intention from the start so I didn’t go in that direction. Even though I was a bit tempted to draw a stem and a leaf. Instead, I kept adding to it and filling the image out in a circular pattern. I was going to leave it at that, but then I decided I still felt like adding more. So I added the “flame” looking stuff around the outside and finally the circles at the bottom.

Once again I really wish I could add color. As I keep saying, this paper I’m using currently just doesn’t work well with my colored pencils. One of these days I’ll get to purchasing some new paper!

Hail Hydra: Day 41

Hydra-ish

Hello, people. Welcome to day number 41. A much more productive day than yesterday. I was very hungover (so very nauseous) yesterday, so I didn’t feel like doing anything at all. However, I got a love seat that comes apart into two reclining chairs, and today I spent a bunch of time setting all of it up. I even have a nice spot to do my drawings now!

I was playing Diablo III: Reaper of Souls on my PS3 today when I got an idea to draw something involving a skull. I was thinking of creating a creature of sorts at first, but then the idea clicked; Hydra. Hydra is an evil organization from the Captain America book and move series. I really like the symbol they use, but I didn’t want to just find a picture of it and copy it, so I came up with something unique. I think it turned out pretty good. I want to color it all red though, but I’ve used up all of  paper I had before. Now I’m just using the other sketch pad I had to start with. Colors don’t work so well on this paper I’m using. So I need to go out sometime and buy some better paper.

Anyways, that’s all for today. It’s really bugging me that I can’t use colors right now (well, I still have my digital stuff, of course) until I buy some better paper. So I’ll have to do that soon!

Paints are Messy: Day 17

LameAbstract

Welcome everyone, to day 17 of my year of creative habits. I just need to do what I’ve completed so far about 21 more times and my first year will be complete. I want to continue to try new art techniques and materials to see what I can come up with. It’s also important to do this so I don’t get bored. Maybe before the year is up I’ll even paint something. Though I would rather do that in Photoshop. Paints are messy. And I always hated painting in school.

Next up, maybe for tomorrow, I want to take some of my older sketches and redo them in Photoshop. With colors and all that. Like this guy!

Connect the Dots: Day 16

Sprawl

Wasn’t able to spend all that much time on this project today, so it’s a work in progress for tomorrow. I really like where it’s going though. Right now it doesn’t look like much, but I have some ideas. Hopefully it turns out.

Posting a bit late today, but I’ve been napping ever since I returned home from my camping weekend. I’ll be recovering over the next few days or so, I think. So, for now, I’m going to post this and be done for the day. Back to sleep!
