Early Halloween: Day 47

Emergence

There we go. All finished. Ended up flipping it around and making it into a 5×7 Halloween card! Turned out pretty awesome. I love how much little details there are. Definitely learned a lot from doing this one. Techniques and stuff I should be using from here on out. Especially with Halloween next month. More monsters and such to come, I think.

I got an offer to do some Christmas cards/postcards in the near future! Pretty awesome. I think I’m going to stick to doing these 5×7 card sizes for awhile. I think they’ll be a lot more marketable in familiar sizes. Makes sense.

EDIT: Maybe I’m not quite finished with this yet. I’m noticing some spots where I can make some improvements.

Carving Shapes: Day 46

Early Emergence

I kinda surprised myself. I was just trying to figure out what I wanted to draw for my daily drawing. Then decided to go with something on Photoshop as I was already using it today. Then this kinda happened. The detail is awesome!

I was just drawing some blackness, then carving it out with the eraser into shapes. They kind of looked like arms so I kept drawing different things. I then made the decision that the blackness up top was the ground. Yuppers, ground on the top of the page there. So it’s now going to be dirt and we’re going to have lots of things reaching out of it! Should be awesome. I dunno, we’ll see what happens!

I’ll keep working on it over the next few days or so. It’s going to turn out to be a Halloween inspired piece. Pretty cool. You’ll definitely need to click for the full sized image to really see what’s going on.

Fish Tank: Day 39

Day 39

I’m unexpectedly not at home today. So I decided to doodle from the large fish tank sitting in front of me. I think it turned out pretty great. Something different than what I normally do, that’s for sure.

I’ll get right back to posting my slides tomorrow. I kind of got whisked away from my place today. Having a few drinks. Enjoying myself. Hope everyone is having a fantastic Tuesday!

Doodling With my Niece, Emily: Day 27

Candy Bombs

Bright and colorful bombs, filled with delicious candy, are heading down towards…

EmilyWorld

Emily World! Where anything is possible. The evil Fat Octopus Man is terrorizing everyone! Oh, look it’s the Super Onion Guy who’s saving the day by… making everyone cry! Pigs shaped like sprinkled doughnuts! Awesome beards! And giant heads with black-holes for mouths! Ridiculously awesome.

So yeah, today I spent the afternoon drawing with my 8 year old niece, Emily. I picked her up from school today. It’s only, I think, her 3rd day of grade 3. I had to scout around to find her when the bell rang as I wasn’t sure which doors she would burst from. I ended up finding her rolling around in the sand at the school’s playground. We walked home, drank some chocolate milk, and drew our stuff. I would of never came up with the candy bombs I drew if she didn’t inspire me with her 8 year old wackiness.

Colorful Comet: Day 18

Comet

I won’t say too much about today’s artwork. Thanks to my cousin Brad, who came up with the idea to draw a meteor or a comet. This thing turned out wonderfully. I wanted something with colors!

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get working on that critter I posted yesterday that I’d like to convert to digital. We’ll see though. A friend asked me to create some slides for her. So I might be working on that. She needs them to go along with an IGNITE “talk” that she’s giving in September. Haven’t got back to her yet about it, but I’ll be doing that shortly. Hope I can pull it off! Wish me luck.

Saturn-like: Day 8

Saturn

A pretty boring weekend so far. I have zero plans for my Saturday, so I spent a few hours messing around with the different pencils I own. Finding the right colors that I wanted to inevitably use for today’s project. I’m hoping that I can find something else to do today!

Yesterday I created a quick space scene with Photoshop, while today I tried doing something similar with pencils and paper. I only filled out about half of the page, but it turned out pretty good! I did alter a few things in Photoshop after taking the picture. The contrast was adjusted a tad, and I made the stars way brighter than they were with the original. Overall I’m happy with how it turned out, but I think I’ll stick with Photoshop for space scenes in the future. This was a pretty fun project though.

I’m really enjoying going back and forth from digital artwork to the real world stuff. I’m going to keep this up for awhile. I would even like to find other ways to create artwork as well. I have some ideas on how to keep things interesting in the future when I could potentially get bored of using the same two mediums. I’ll keep the ideas to myself for now though. It should be a nice surprise in the future.

Space, The Final Frontier: Day 7

Space Scene created by Robert Chapman

There! I kept my work short today as I’ve barely been home or near an internet connection. I made a nice little Photoshop space scene I made in about 25 minutes. I haven’t done one of these in months. But the last time I made a space scene I made a few sheets of paper (cheat sheets, I guess) to help me create similar effects for future drawings.

I wasn’t sure when I was going to get my drawing done today. At around midnight last night, a friend offered me a bowl of homemade chili. The only catch was that I had to get out of bed, get dressed, and walk over there. I went. And after hanging out and getting home at around 3am, I was wondering when I would find the time to get my daily art post completed the following day. I was actually worried about missing a day. I guess a week is enough time to get into a pretty good routine.
