Artificial Light Sources: Day 94

Dragon?

Looks like I struggle a bit with finding the proper color when I take these photos under artificial light. First I had to remove the yellow, then enhance the color to get it as close as possible to what I see on paper. What I ended up with today wasn’t very accurate. Ah well, tomorrow I’ll start earlier to get that natural sunlight, and I should have a lot more coloring finished by then.

The picture’s looking pretty good. It’s going to take a very long time to fill each tiny circle with the blue, yellow, and green I picked out, but nothing worth doing is easy I always say! Besides, I watched Rocky tonight. I gotta work at it, you know? Buy some turtles. Then punch some faces. Or something like that.

Rebirth and Flame! Day 93

Phoenix

So now it’s evidently the Phoenix! Bird of rebirth and flame! Okay, cool. That’s a thing that this has now turned into. I didn’t plan on it at all! But there it is.

The little circle dots are finished! Next up, for tomorrow, is adding color. Orange, red, and yellow, I’m thinking. It should look pretty awesome, but I really do want to try something interesting with color. I’m just not sure what to do. I don’t really want to just simply slap on color here and there with no pattern or interesting idea. So I have to figure out what I’m doing before I begin adding color all willy nilly and when it’s too late come up with a clever idea.

Side by Side: Day 78

Alien Jelly

Happy Saturday, everyone. I just finished watching a fantastic documentary called “Side by Side“. It was produced by Keanu Reeves and was all about traditional film versus digital. I have to say that it was pretty awesome, quite informative, and thought provoking. I recommend it to anyone interested in the process of making movies from the beginning of movie-making up until now. Or at least 2012, when the documentary was made. Loved it.

I had an image of a giant creepy slug (From a movie like Slither or something) creeping across a hardwood floor in my head this morning. Not a completely random thought, mind you, as I was actually trying to think of what to draw today. I wrote in my post yesterday that I wanted to keep it rather simple today, so I just sketched something from my thoughts. No research was required for this one. The picture above is what happened. Not so slug-like after all.

I’m Afraid I Can’t do That: Day 74

HAL 9000 Complete

“I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.”

I love how this turned out! Oh so much. I love how the speaker at the bottom looks, I love the fantastically creepy eye in the center of the page, everything looks perfect. There were a lot of things I was worried about while I was going along, but again… I’m surprised how great everything looks. I’m so happy with it.

I haven’t seen 2001: A Space Odyssey in a couple years, but I plan to watch it this Halloween. I have a cousin that has yet to see it, and we’re planning on doing a movie marathon on Halloween. I think HAL is the only character in the movie that shows any real emotion! Those future humans are so bland and uninteresting. I think that’s just the type of future Stanley Kubrick imagined.

I sure did put a lot of effort into this picture though. My back, my neck, and my wrist are quite sore. It took forever to draw all those tiny little squares at the bottom, not to mention coloring all that black everywhere else.

What should I draw next? Hmmm…. I think I have an idea.

Space Odyssey: Day 73

HAL9000

Well, I was planning on taking a break from the Halloween themed characters, and I sort of did, but HAL9000 is one of the creepiest “characters” ever. And I don’t think it’s just my opinion on that. HAL9000 is no doubt the character with the most emotion, ironically, in that entire movie. That movie would be 2001: A Space Odyssey, of course.

I won’t go as far as to say that 2001 is my favorite movie. Which a lot of movie buffs have said. I’m no movie buff. But I appreciate good artistic direction! And 2001 is almost a silent film with a lot of really interesting situations. Followed by even more interesting questions!

The inking on this picture took FOREVER. Turned out great though. Also, trying some new settings on my camera and it did take better photos, but I’ll have to mess around with it some more in the future.

Birthday Girl: Day 72

Spook Complete

Oh man, I really need to get back to my sleeping schedule this week. Staying up late all weekend has seriously put a damper on my drawing time. Starting tomorrow I’ll be doing my drawing early in the morning again. At least before noon!

This guy turned out alright. As I’ve stated before, I’m not a fan of the colored pencil at the bottom. Should of kept on using the ink as I planned. Ah well, another learning experience!

I might take a break from the Halloween theme tomorrow. We’ll see how I feel then, but right now I’m struggling a bit coming up with unique ideas. Every day I want to do something vastly different than the day before, and that’s getting difficult. As I said, we’ll see how I feel in the morning.

Also, not sure if she ever reads my blog (but perhaps someday she will read this post, who knows) I just want to say happy birthday to one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Happy Birthday, Meggz!

Fire: Day 71

Spook

What a super busy day. Just got home from watching the hockey game and it’s already 10:40pm. Going to be a really quick post as I spent an hour (during the intermissions between periods) inking the fire behind the character I drew yesterday. Not a very productive day really. However, I like how he’s looking. Besides that a lot of the color in the photo was lost because it’s so late and I only have the lights in my apartment to illuminate the paper. Tomorrow should be better!
