Leecher: Day 140

Photoshop Painting

There, all finished. The finished painting doesn’t look all that cohesive, but that’s because originally I was planning on just having the creature in the shot. So the entire picture isn’t using very many layers, which makes it difficult to fill in a background behind the creature because technically there is no background. There are ways around this using Photoshop (you can pretty much do anything if with this software if you put the effort in) however, it would probably take too long and just isn’t worth it. I’m going to start something new tomorrow.

I really like how that new stuff looks at the top there. The black on blue rock stuff. I think I might do some more of that soon. It kind of has a three dimensional look to it, which is fantastic as it adds depth to the overall image.

I set out to paint something creepy and cute at the same time, and I think I succeeded.

Merry Christmas! Day 139

Photoshop Painting

Merry Christmas, everyone. This is my first, and last, Christmas during this year of creative habits project. I mean, I may do another year after I’m finished with this one, but this is my first. I noticed that I pretty much completely stayed away from Christmas/holiday themed artwork up until this point. I find that a little bit surprising. I guess when I went and drew all those Halloween inspired creations it was more up my alley. Creatures and all that makes more sense to me than Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and reindeer. I do love a snowy winter though, so maybe I’ll incorporate that at some point. I haven’t been in the winter spirit yet though. We haven’t really had much snow this winter.

Would anyone out there like to see more holiday themed artwork? Honestly, if there’s any actual demand for it I would gladly do it. I’ve had an image in my head for awhile now. An image related to wintertime. An old forgotten vehicle buried in the snow. Kinda of twilight time of day with a lot of pine trees around. I can’t remember where that image came from, but it was a month or two ago when I started thinking about it. I definitely should get that onto paper. Even if I don’t finish it, because I expect it would take a long time to complete. It would be nice to just get it on “paper”

Satisfied: Day 138

Photoshop Painting

Today I’ve uploaded the full sized version of this guy so you can see all the little details. Of course, I’m still not finished yet, so a lot of it is just blurry paint heh The eyes look really great though, I think. Overall, I’m not all that excited about this project actually. Despite being satisfied with how he looks so far. I’m not exactly sure what it is, perhaps I’m just tired, but it took an hour or so for me to get interested in continuing with this guy. I did put a good three hours into him tonight though! So I’m satisfied with that, at least.

Anyways, I’ll be right back at it again tomorrow. I’ll squeeze in a little time whenever I can, even though it’ll be Christmas day.

EDIT: I’m mostly adding this edit here as a reminder for myself!

Perhaps remove the “tail” and even the legs entirely. Or put the legs underneath. It’ll work, I promise! So listen to yourself.

Comfort: Day 137

Photoshop Painting

I’m not sure exactly where I’m going to go next with this guy, but so far he’s looking really good. I had to try my hardest to ignore my impatience this time, as I just continuously wanted to move on to another part of the picture. It takes so long to do all the little details (details that oftentimes are hard to notice when you’re not looking at it up close) and so sometimes I’m spending upwards of 30 minutes on a tiny little spot. It can get pretty mentally exhausting. Hell! I’ll say physically too since it’s really tough to find a good spot where I can hold my tablet and my keyboard and reach everything fine. My setup kind of sucks since I don’t have a desk or a computer chair. Even when I did have those things they weren’t comfortable enough for drawing.

Zero Fingers: Day 136

Green owl painted with Photoshop

I was half tempted to add a gun aiming toward the viewer because it looks like it would fit. I’d probably throw a holster on his waist as well. If you can imagine it like I can, the idea has the potential to look pretty cool. Despite the fact that an owl has zero fingers, you know, fingers that would be required to fire the gun. I’m quite positive he’ll stay this way though.  I’ll keep that “bounty hunter furry/feathery/slimey animal” idea in my back pocket for later 😉

Annoyed Hamster: Day 135

Chubby Hamster Photoshop Painting

Well, it’s officially 21 minutes after midnight. I had another busy day today, including some company visiting to watch a Christmas movie (Scrooged!) and it was fantastic. We also watched a hockey game, and did whatever. I knew I was going to get my drawing done, it would just end up being pretty late!

Anyways, this hamster turned out terrific. It’s not of my own design exactly, but rather from (once again) that manga drawing book my niece, Amber, let me borrow the other day. It’s wonderful! So many awesome pictures of interesting characters. Not all of them are cute and cuddly, but there isn’t a single character in that entire book that I DON’T want to draw! As long as I stay in the mood to draw from this book, I’m going to keep on doing it. I’m learning so much!

I’ve always been pretty good at designing my own faces and heads, but limbs and body structure I haven’t really practiced. I know if I do it enough I’ll get good at it. So that means that eventually I’ll have my characters for that fake comic book I was writing! Um… only problem is they’ll all be woodland creatures…

Amber’s Book: Day 134

Cat Photoshop Painting

I was a little out of my comfort zone today as I decided to attempt to draw an adorable kitty cat. My niece, Amber, let me borrow one of her drawing books and it’s all about adorable animals. This book even has some interesting Photoshop techniques for coloring characters. I’m definitely going to be going through more of this book in the days to come.

I think my first character turned out alright. There are lots of little bits that are messy and need work, but it’s getting late and I’m extremely tired. I had a pretty busy day and my drawing had to wait until the evening. I’m pretty sure I’ll stay quite busy since it’s the holidays, but I’ll always find time to post a new drawing! Hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday season.
