Would Anyone Buy This? Day 87

Straight Spatter

I’m not too sure where I’m going with this piece right now. I’ve been looking at some amazing abstract paintings lately and so with that firmly stuck in my head, this drawing came out of those thoughts. It’s not very “painty”, but I see some inspiration here. I’m not finished with it yet though. I, somehow, want to add drippy paint looking touches here and there. I just need to figure out how and where.

This piece, so far, isn’t a good example, but I’ve been thinking about taking some of these and framing them. I bet they would look nice. Some of them anyways. Perhaps I could sell them. I would ask myself the obvious question, “But, would anyone buy this?” However, I won’t ask. I don’t think an artist ever knows for sure until someone else asks, “Hey, can I like… buy that from you? It would look good in my office.”

To-Do List: Day 86

Straightforward

So, the charging cable for my laptop was destroyed in an unknown snip snip accident. The culprit is most likely my reclining chair. So a new cable has been ordered and should be here within a month. However, this tragic event has encouraged me – out of necessity – to find a decent photo editing app and start posting all my art to WordPress through various Android apps. Let’s see how this turns out…

Sunday turned out to be a pretty eventful day! Spent the majority of it hanging out with a buddy. We talked for hours about the Universe, creativity, decision making, and how a voiceless Scarlett Johansson would make a perfect girlfriend.

The movie, “Under the Skin” was mind bending, creepy, and thought provoking. We watched it tonight. I need to find me some more art indie films to watch. It was a fantastic experience watching that movie.

One more thing I want to mention: There are things I’ve been thinking about. Things I want to accomplish, but fear I may lack the courage to ever come through with any of these.

– Cancelling my Internet service for awhile
– Selling my PlayStation
– Create even more artwork daily
– Read more and stick with the books I’ve started
– Find a way to make a living with my art
– Say “Hello” to the neighbour girl

Entertaining Poprocks: Day 85

Dots

It’s the day after Halloween and there isn’t a whole lot going on. It’s actually been quite boring for me so far. Besides these pop rocks I’m eating. They’ve been a little entertaining.

Today’s drawing was just a doodle I did while I was visiting my mother for coffee this morning. I have a rough idea of what I want to do with it, but I’m not sure how it will turn out.

There isn’t really much else I could mention today as it’s been a boring day. I’m not really in the greatest of moods and I’m hoping a great Maple Leafs game tonight will turn that around.

Musical Creation: Day 61

Plaid 2

I’m hesitating on calling this image complete. I still think it need something special. Not sure what yet though, but I have a few ideas that I might try tomorrow. Or I’ll leave it how it is and move on to something else. It’s past due time I start on some creepy Halloween themed drawings.

It’s going to be a brief update today. However, I do have an interesting thing to discuss, for anyone interested in replying in the comments. When I do my daily drawing, I’m always listening to some form of music. Audio stimulation seems to really drive what I end up creating. It’s been like that for a few years or so now. When I was a kid I would do most of my drawing in school. During class, of course. I’d often get in trouble because I would draw while the teachers talked. There was no music. I would drown everything out and just doodle. Music (usually without vocals as I sometimes find them distracting) is what helps me to create. So, what kind of music helps you to focus? Or do whatever it is you do best?

Throwing Color Around: Day 60

Plaid

I’m still having a blast with all this abstract stuff. This style is always a lot of fun as the image changes more than a few times as you draw. You start trying out different ideas and color schemes as you’re drawing. I plan to fill this book entirely with these types of images. It will hopefully turn out pretty great.

Growing up I hardly used any color with my drawings. About 95% of the time it was strictly pencil or pen. Combined with a lot of shading. Now, it’s really refreshing to be able to just throw color around however I want. It’s like with today’s picture, it’s really simple right now as I’ve only spent a couple hours with it, but once I get shading and adding some details, I’m sure it’ll look quite different. Not sure where I’m going with it yet though.

I really should get into Halloween mode sooner than later. It’s coming up fast. I’d like to draw some of my classic creatures that I used to draw all the time. You know, monsters and aliens. So I’ll have to start that soon.

I’ve been discussing a movie marathon with a couple friends of mine. Maybe doing it right on Halloween if people aren’t too busy. Probably a few classic horror movies with some funny Halloween movies thrown in there. We’ll see what we decide on.

My question for today is definitely Halloween themed. Out of the classic scary movies, which one is your favorite? Any movie with a thriller or horror theme is fine. Or even a proper Halloween theme. You know, stuff like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Nightmare Before Christmas (Yup. I would include that for sure), Aliens, and The Exorcist. Stuff like that. For me it’s definitely Beetlejuice. I was never a horror fan growing up. Watched a lot of them, but never really got much out of it. Beetlejuice however, stuck with me. I even had a whole bunch of action figures. So what’s your favorite?

Our Place Within the Cosmos: Day 58

Space Window Updated

The lighting was really terrible today, so the image quality isn’t the greatest. Hopefully tomorrow is much better while I finish this picture up. It’s turning out to be an excellent space scene! Still have to work on the planets some more, and I have to figure out what I’m doing with the dust cloud in the back.

I wasn’t sure what this picture was going to end up as when I started, as I was just drawing a bunch of random circles. Usually that’s how I do most of my drawings. I draw some shapes, and see if any images show up naturally in my imagination as I go along.

You know, I really do have a million things I could potentially talk about here, but since I’m always posting these for myself to look back on when I’m done, I don’t even bother. However, other people read this. And other people will read this in the future. So I should try harder to come up with something semi-interesting to talk about in future posts.

So, any ideas? Actually, I’ll probably look over what I drew for the day, and see if it relates to anything. For example, today’s image is a space scene. I have a million things I could bring up about space. For today’s post, I’m going to ask a question to anyone willing to reply in the comments. Whether you care about outer space or not, what is the thing that you find most interesting? For me, it’s perhaps our place within the cosmos. How unimaginably massive it all is, and how insignificant we are individually. Rather than how important we are as “Earthlings” as, so far as we know, the only intelligent beings that can appreciate the beauty of all that’s out there.

Conspiracy Theories: Day 57

Space Window

Just a really quick update today. I have some company over today. I started a pretty cool drawing. I’m going to definitely finish this tomorrow, as I really like where it’s going!

I’ve been hanging out at home today as it was quite rainy and miserable outside for most of the afternoon. Playing a few videogames and watching some TV episodes of various shows. Having some deep conspiracy theories with a buddy. Which is what we normally do when we hang out.

I’m not really sure if these circles are planets, but it definitely does look like a window into space! So I’m going with that. Maybe I’ll add some rings or something, if possible, tomorrow.
