Halloween Postcard Collage: Day 45

Halloween Compilation

A good friend asked me to help her create some Halloween cards the other day. She offered up some examples from some older drawings I did and I went ahead and did some editing to add some nice colors. They turned out excellent, but I switched one of her suggestions out for a newer demon guy I did a couple weeks back. I think he fits a little better. The other guy was pretty goofy.

I threw them all together in a collage today and I think they look quite smashing! The colors go together pretty well, with the yellow maybe being the only one I might change. Perhaps to orange. We’ll see what she says when she has time to check it out. She might even want the older drawing back in there instead of the demon guy. We’ll see.

Chupon Typhoon: Day 43

Chupon

Happy Saturday everyone. Was a pretty great day today. Warm weather with not a whole lot to do. Just relaxed with a buddy for most of the day. Went for a nice walk earlier in the afternoon. Might be one of the last really warm days this year. We’ll see though.

Not sure why I decided to draw Final Fantasy VI’s Chupon/Typhoon character. I think I just wanted to do something creepy. Like a monster or something. Sketched a few things that didn’t turn out so great, then I thought of Chupon. I looked up a picture to get the details right. Then tossed that sketch away and just drew him all over again. This time in my own style just going by memory. Turned out much better!

Yoshitaka Amano’s style is pretty difficult to replicate as his brush strokes look so random and all over the place! He has an absolutely insane amount of detail in all of his pieces. It’s amazing actually. My version of this guy looks better than what I was trying to do before.

Snakey Dragon Thing: Day 28

Flighty

I’m pretty late posting my picture for today! Been feeling off all day today actually. Don’t get me wrong though, it was actually a pretty decent day. But I just didn’t get enough sleep last night, I haven’t even eaten much of anything, and I’m stressing about an interview tomorrow morning. Probably why I haven’t had much of an appetite.

There isn’t all that much of a story with this guy. I just needed to draw something, so I started with the eyes, and then finished the face and head. He looked like a frog, but that was too easy, so I made him into a snake. Then I felt bad because he had no limbs. So, now he can fly. Cool beans. At least I posted something. Yaaaaaaaaaay….. *snore*

First Nation Style: Day 26

Indian turtle drawing photograph

It was suggested to me last night to try my hand at drawing some first nation style art. At first I was worried that it might be inappropriate. I definitely didn’t want to commit any cultural appropriation or anything. I’m not of native decent. However, after doing some research and seeing the different types of first nation style art that was out there, I had to try my hand at it. At the very least to show appreciation for this wonderful style. Also, I love turtles.

I think it turned out perfectly. It looks way better, as usual, in real life on paper than it does in this photograph. I don’t think I could have done a better job.

Pew Pew Pew: Day 25

JesseRemade

I quickly drew Jesse again today, with a few changes, as I have to leave shortly for the day/night. I was afraid of not getting my drawing done for today, so at least I posted something by drawing this guy. However, despite being in a hurry, he still turned out marvelously. Don’t you think? I wish I had of made the hand holding the gun a lot bigger. As it’s supposed to be closer to the camera. however, I did this all in pen and once I drew what was there, there was no going back. Also, it makes sense he has such big feet as his hands are pretty massive Ninja Turtle-esque paws.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll color him up as my daily duties. But I did find some retro video game screens to use for my next big project. However, after staring at them for awhile, I can’t figure out exactly what I want to do with them! I don’t want to just simply recreate them. If I did that with Photoshop then it would just look the same. Like I just found a picture of the title screen and uploaded it as my work. So, I could maybe recreate them on paper. But there’s nothing really creative about that. So, I’ll have to figure something out. Something awesome.

Something Red: Day 24

Horns

Alright. It’s time to sit down and write something up about this guy. Well, first off, I think he turned out pretty darn good. A little bit nightmarish but at the same time Saturday morning kid TV friendly. Well, he might not belong on Animaniacs so much as Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Although, anything goes with Animaniacs, I guess.

It’s odd. For about 4 or 5 months now I’ve wanted to create something… red. A creature is what I was thinking from the beginning. All this time I’ve been trying to figure out what would work with bright red. Maybe a creature, maybe not a creature. I guess I finally figured it out. Red suits this guy 😉

Now it’s time to find some retro gaming title screens and figure out what I’m going to create with them. However, I am going away for a day or two starting tomorrow, so I may have to improvise some artwork away from home. So maybe no retro title screens just yet. We’ll just have to see what happens!

Happy September!

Horn Experiments: Day 23

Horns

I’m just about finished with this guy, but it’s already after 9PM and I’ve been working on him for a couple hours. Going to post it as “work in progress” and finish it up tomorrow! He’s looking great, eh? I experimented a bit on the horn there and it turned out pretty good actually. We’ll see how it looks when I do the rest of the horns.

Something I’ve wanted to do for a few weeks now is most likely going to be my next project. Classic video game start screens. Not sure what I’m going to do with it as of yet, but I want to do something interesting. Not just simply look at a picture of a video game screen and copy it. Perhaps I’ll do it on real paper and draw each pixel. Maybe zoom in on the image a bunch so it’s tough to even tell what it is, then draw that in my own way. With lots of colored squares. No idea! Just something I’ve been wanting to try. Should be fun.

Hope everyone is having a terrific weekend.
