Compilation: Day 100

Weeblies Complete

100 days of keeping up with my daily creative habit: I feel that’s a lot of days, right? It doesn’t sound like quite as much when you think of it as a little over 3 months, but I’ll make sure every 100 days is a major achievement, and use the opportunity to look back on what I’ve accomplished. This is a massive post! So click “Continue Reading” for the rest. It’s a doozy!

Weeblies: Day 99

Weeblies

Despite mentioning how close my 100th day was in several posts throughout the past week, today kind of caught me off guard. I mean, 99 days. Kind of nuts.

Today’s drawing was very light as I’m feeling sick today. I somehow poisoned myself last night. I think it was all that whiskey I drank. So while I recover I figure I have to get to drawing something. So I drew a bunch of Weeblies. Which actually took a good amount of effort to do considering how awgul I feel. These little guys, which I may have mentioned/drawn once before on this website, are my own creation from forever ago. When I was in highschool, I think. My cousin named them “Weeblies” years later.

Halloween Postcard Collage: Day 45

Halloween Compilation

A good friend asked me to help her create some Halloween cards the other day. She offered up some examples from some older drawings I did and I went ahead and did some editing to add some nice colors. They turned out excellent, but I switched one of her suggestions out for a newer demon guy I did a couple weeks back. I think he fits a little better. The other guy was pretty goofy.

I threw them all together in a collage today and I think they look quite smashing! The colors go together pretty well, with the yellow maybe being the only one I might change. Perhaps to orange. We’ll see what she says when she has time to check it out. She might even want the older drawing back in there instead of the demon guy. We’ll see.

Globby Ink: Day 13

wpid-p_20140821_134821.jpg

Well, this kind of sucks. I went out last night to grab some nice black gel pens to ink my sketches, and the pens don’t really do any of the things I wanted them to do. I can’t use them to ink over pencil because they stop working almost right away, like any regular ball point pen. I only used the pen over a 2H octo-guy drawing a couple of times, and now the pen doesn’t produce consistent ink trails. Quite annoying. Also, the ink globs at certain points (Pretty sure it’s because I had to go back and ink again in spots) and so it smeared in a few places. My pencils also pick up some of the ink and that produces small black marks.

Sigh! Not happy with my purchase. Perhaps next I should try felt tipped pens. I’ll maybe do some research before I get more. Also, I completely forgot to look for different kinds of drawing paper while I was out last night. I think my paper still needs an upgrade.

I’m going away this weekend, so starting tomorrow I’m going to have to do my drawing wherever I am. Then get a net connection and post it. I probably won’t be writing all that much while I’m away. We’ll see though. Camping! And partying. Drinking. Sleeping. This is going to be a challenge me thinks.

Practicing Shading Techniques: Day 11

doodle phtograph

I just did a few doodles today, as I was pretty much just trying out some shading tehniques. However, I discovered that the paper I’m using just doesn’t work well with colored pencils. They just don’t meld correctly when I try to mix them. I have some other sketchbooks around somewhere, I’ll have to try them out later today.

It’s funny, I’m finding that I enjoy working with pencils and paper more than my digital methods. I keep trying to go back to my drawing tablet, but I’m having an easier time getting my ideas down on actual paper. I’ll keep up the real drawing for awhile yet, I’m sure.

Next up, trying out some different types of paper.

Anything at All: Day 2

ColoredMish

I wanted to do something with a little more color today, so this is what I ended up with. It took me a little while to complete. Maybe a couple hours. Was fun for a little while, but after an hour I just wanted it done. I had to make sure to keep it as consistent as I could throughout as I didn’t want my impatience to show. I’m glad I added the color in the background.

My posts won’t often be detailed pieces that take hours to complete. I just happened to have the the time to do it. The main purpose of this is to get me in front of my computer, or do something with paper and pencils, and drawing something, anything at all. Then post it and discuss why I did what I did. Pretty simple.  Some days (most days?) it could be just some simple sketches or maybe just getting some ideas down.

So, day 2 complete! Hopefully tomorrow I can work on creating a new header image for the website. The one up there, as I’m writing this, is just a stock photo from WordPress. Gotta change that!

Let’s Get This Party Started: Day 1

PatternBlack

And thus begins my year long journey! My goal is to create one piece of art, either digital or otherwise, and post it here once a day, for 365 days in a row. Along with a few paragraphs explaining why I chose to create whatever it is I created. It’s going to be a lot of work, but as long as I get a week under my belt, I know I’ll be able to pull it off. I’ll figure out what I’m going to do after the 365 days when I arrive there.

I definitely need to thank Eric for setting this website up with me (he basically did all the website work!) and providing the most excellent ukulele music to go along with creating the creatures I drew today.  The piece above was pretty much born from some interesting abstract artwork I saw in a coffee shop, some 80’s cartoon themes, and Eric’s ukulele. Often combining the ukulele with the 80’s cartoon themes!
