Fire in the Sky: Day 195

Warped Abandoned Cityscape

I’m still working on this painting! For today I added some much needed detail to those windows. Even though I was originally going for an abstract feel, I’m attempting to make those windows a little more window-like, rather than just blobs of paint. So far, they’re turning out well. Ignore the fact that right now the windows are reflecting a decent amount of light even though the scene is during the night. What I’m thinking of doing is trying to find a way to make the object in the sky emit some light. Like you would expect a proper alien anomaly to produce. That’s the idea right now anyways.

I’ve also added some detail to the buildings there. It actually took a couple hours to do all that I did today, even though the results don’t look a whole lot different from the day before. Well, I just went and looked and I guess the differences are significant enough. Doing each one of those windows by hand took forever. By the time I was on to the last building, I was really forcing myself to take my time and make sure I did a good enough job, because I was really sick and tired of doing the windows at that point!

So next up is making that object in the sky brighter! I’ll perhaps even make it look completely different, because right now I’m not too sure if I’m committed to how it looks right now. What do you think? Change it up? It shouldn’t be a massive change, but I want it to be a bit more obvious when someone looks at this painting for the first time, what the heck that thing is! Right now, it’s pretty ambiguous, I think. I love the idea of a mysterious object in the sky, but I want it to feel like a big ball of energy that could perhaps be an alien spaceship. That’s the feeling I want to get across.

Pencils First: Day 194

Warped Abandoned Cityscape

Today felt like a super productive day as I only painted for an hour or so, but it felt like a got a lot done overall. Usually I sit down to draw and spend an hour or two figuring out what I’m going to do, and then fail for a couple hours until I get a better idea. Today though, I found a comfortable way to use my drawing tablet and my laptop and still accurately paint with it. Usually I struggle, even after using these tools for a couple years now, with finding a proper way to sit comfortably and still use the tablet with any accuracy.

Opportunities: Day 193

Warped Cityscape

I finally got around to putting that drawing I’ve been working on into Photoshop! It’s not completed yet as I would like to go over it all again and add a whole bunch of little details, but I feel like it’s coming along nicely so far. I’m not entirely sure what kind of details I would add exactly, but it would likely involve enhancing those windows on the buildings, as well as making that moon glow properly.

Scheduling Creation: Day 192

Alien City Drawing

I was hoping to get some Photoshopping done today, but that just wasn’t going to happen. So for today, I went to town on adding detail to this drawing on paper rather than doing the Photoshop thing. Lo and behold, it’s turning out pretty great.

I seem to be making a bit of a habit of getting started on my drawing pretty late in the day. Then when I go to post my drawing, it’s so late in the day it takes me forever to think of something I can properly put into words. Something might need to change.

Midnight Oil: Day 191

Early City Drawing

Late post tonight! I did my drawing early though, thankfully. I’ve had company all day and haven’t had an opportunity to get anything written yet. Until now, at least. Well, that being said, it’s now getting pretty late, and I’m not going to go too crazy on this post. I drew the rest of the starry sky, and if you look close I penciled out a bit of the building shapes.

I have some interesting plans for tomorrow. I really want to find the best way to get this picture uploaded into Photoshop so I can try painting it. I’m thinking up all kinds of different effects I can try, and I really need to get back into digital painting. Tomorrow’s another day, and that’s when I’ll get to it. Until then, I’m off!

Bright Red: Day 190

Early City Drawing

Okay, so this drawing is incredibly early on. I’m sure you can get an idea of what it’s going to be, but I thought it would be fun to post what I’m working on, as I’m working on it. Not to mention that I’ll be working on it for most of the night during two hockey games, so I wouldn’t have found time to post until after midnight if I didn’t do it now.

So, here it is! It’s not going to be realistic, but I’m planning on adding a lot of windows. I’m thinking up ways to make it so the windows are the only thing on the page with any real color. The moon will be pale, not unlike the crescent moon I did a few days or so ago, and the buildings might be shades of grey, or …maybe I’ll make them bright red! I really don’t know. I just want to convey some kind of emotion using the buildings and windows. Not to mention the fact that they are standing tall all around you.

So yeah, that’s what I’m working on. Nothing too impressive at the moment, but when I look at this early sketch, I see a lot of the finalized picture. There are just a few question marks sticking out at me. What colors am I going to use? And will those windows all fit in there correctly at the correct angles? It’s going to take some work. I don’t do scenes like this often.

If you want to see an updated version before I do tomorrow’s post, I usually post those smaller updates on Instagram.

Pinterest! And Other Social Media Type Things and Places: Day 188

Crazy groovy space thing

As I’m typing this first line out on my newest post (yes, the one you’re reading right now), I have yet to work on my art project that I begun a couple days ago. Rather than do any of that today, I’ve instead redesigned a few bits on my website, got completely set up on this thing called Pinterest (I still have yet to fully grasp that whole Instagram thing!), and I begun selling my artwork on a website called Artpal. Not to mention changed a couple ideas on what I want to focus on going forward from this point onward. Turns out day 188 of my creative habit is going to be an important one, as far as the future of my art career is concerned.
