Books and Shrooms: Day 360

MarioShroom by Robert Chapman

I figured before my 365th day in a row comes around, I should at least spend a day doing some pen and paper drawings. I set up a chair outside and did a little bit of doodling, and for awhile there I wasn’t too sure what this was going to end up as, but then I saw the Super Mario mushroom. I colored it as such.

I follow this wonderful 3D artist on Patreon, Twitch, and Twitter. She goes by Ellalune, and today she shared a link that leads to an interesting website that might change how I spend some of my time. This website is a virtual library for artists of all kinds, filled with free to view content. Just briefly viewing the various book categories, I see a lot of topics that I would be interested in reading. Various topics include; photography, drawing, painting, and technology, just to name a few that stood out to me. I haven’t looked any deeper yet though, so I’ll have to get back to you in a future post.

Since I started this epic project a year ago, I’ve read only a handful of art related books during that time. I really think I need to increase the amount of books I read throughout the year because I feel that there’s still so much out there that I don’t know. Besides a few how-to tutorials on various Photoshop effects, I’m pretty much completely self-taught when it comes to making my digital artwork. There’s also a whole business side to art that I would like to get more familiar with. Mostly though, I would hope to find some books about artists I can relate to, with personal stories all about business, technique, and experience.

Crystal Moody, another artist that I follow, has been tackling her own epic – year long – projects. One of which is to read 50 books in a year, and through her blog updates I get recommendations for books I should check out. However, since I don’t make much spending money, I frankly can’t afford to just go out and buy books. So sometimes if I want to read something bad enough, I’ll browse around the internet and see if I can find a website offering a free download. More often than not, I have to write it down and maybe pick it up some other time. Perhaps I should check my local library, eh?

Anyways, I think that’s all the stories you’re going to get from me today! Thanks for checking this out. Please follow me, comment, subscribe, any of that kind of stuff! I really appreciate it! 🙂
