Colorful Chameleon: Day 229

Painted Chameleon by Robert Chapman

Alright, so today is Wednesday. Which means from here on out, according to the schedule I created a few days ago, Wednesday’s are to be known as “Nature Wednesday’s”. I’ve had this picture of a bright and colorful Chameleon for a little while now (It’s up on my Pinterest, if you’d like to see it) and today I finally got around to painting it.

It’s obviously not even close to being finished, but I spent a good hour or so getting started on it, and I couldn’t be happier! Just look at this thing. This is just a small portion of how big the final version will be, and I’m having a blast with each tiny scale.

When I started out, I took the original photograph and made a 64 color palette from it. So once I got all my colors out of the way, I made a large canvas and posted the original photograph on top of it. After fading out the original photograph so I can barely see it and creating a new layer, I then choose the smallest brush possible, zoom in really close, and paint (using the mixer brush on “wet” settings) all the tiny details.

After working on all the pixel art I’ve been doing lately, working on this new project feels very familiar to me. I’m enjoying it immensely and I actually can’t wait to get back to working on it. For now though, I have company coming by, and other things I need to accomplish today.
