Pixels: Day 204

Pixel painting

I want today’s picture to be the start of something important, something I look back on and notice a positive trend towards a series of similar drawings. I mentioned a long while ago that I wanted to do some digital paintings inspired by old-school pixel art, and I think this is how I’m going to do it. I just take a particular Photoshop paint brush and just paint each pixel out. However, despite today’s picture already taking about an hour or so to make, it should take quite a lot longer to fill out a full video game screen with a visible image that you should clearly see when viewed in full.

Internet Woes: Day 202

Splatter Drip Painting

It’s just about midnight! No, I didn’t slack off on making my artwork today. Rather, my internet was down for almost the entire day. It’s interesting when that happens though, mainly because you kind of forget how our lives revolve around internet use. I wasn’t able to listen to the usual online radio stations, watch Netflix, get into my website (or any website) and while I was able to get something like 85% of this digital painting complete while my internet was down, I really wanted to look up some abstract paint splatter artwork to see how realistic I could make mine.

Speaking of this, it turned out pretty well. This painting was what I started out with in yesterday’s drawing on paper. I still want to add a little more, without over complicating the picture as a whole. One idea is adding some more of those pixel-like cubes on the edge of the virtual canvas.  I think that would probably be all it needs.

Alright, so it’s after midnight, and I’m pretty tired. I’ll mention one more thing before I get this posted and call it a night: I have plans to add a “Store” link on the bar at the top of my website. Most likely right next to the “Leave tip” link. I’m thinking that I’ll have that link lead to a page within my website with more links (hopefully that’s not annoying) each leading to the various stores where my artwork is for sale online. I think that’s a fantastic idea (which was an idea suggested to me a couple day ago) because it’s not like it’s taking up main real estate or moving any content around. No downside. I like it. It shall be done. Good night!

This Thing I Drew Today: Day 201

Early design

So, what do I do the day after I post that massive celebratory post yesterday? Slack off completely for today, of course! After one of the more busy days I’ve had all winter, including walking in the freezing cold for a good hour or two total yesterday; I needed a bit of a rest. So when I finally get to spending my time creating something, I’m called away and I get busy again. Well, I did make something, of course. And it may even turn out to be something…

Day 200 of my Year of Creative Habits Project

Space Vessel drawing

Welcome to my 200th day in a row of drawing, posting, and sharing my artwork. I’ve been going through the previous 100 posts, and the first thing I noticed is that there is a lot more stand-out artwork to share in this post today, then there was back when I did my 100th post. Which at the time I thought was a pretty huge post itself! I think today’s will surpass that one by a mile (it did). So, with the introduction out of the way, here’s some of my favorites from the past 100 days.

Failing Before Finding Success: Day 199

Pop Art version of my destroyed alien city

I spent some time today going through the past 100 days of artwork (and saving some of the images to my hdd) to prepare for my 200th post tomorrow. I plan on going back and reading all 100 of them too, and hopefully that will give me some insight into how far I’ve come during that time. Or perhaps I feel exactly the same as I did a few months ago and nothing’s changed at all! We’ll just have to see…

Is it Finished? Day 198

Destroyed Alien City

I was afraid that I wasn’t going to have enough time today to get anything done because I’m heading out to a hockey game shortly, but it turns out I’m quite satisfied with the progress I made today. I was able to do another row of window wreckage, got started on some rubble on the ground, and I added some effects on one of the buildings on the left side so it looks like the tentacle is swiping it. Not too shabby. I still plan to do a crazy amount of touch ups on almost everything, but that will be something I’ll tackle sometime this week.

I want to get ready to go, so I’ll cut this pretty short for today. I do want to mention, however, that I’m just a couple days away from hitting my 200th day. So on Tuesday I plan to go over everything I’ve been doing for the past 100 days. So that’s day 100 to 200 altogether. I’ll pick out a bunch of my favorite artwork and try and reflect on each one. Should be fun! Hope everyone has a fantastic week.
