Outer Space: Day 261

"Purple Planet" by Robert Chapman

I forgot how much fun it was to paint space scenes using Photoshop. I can tell that I’m a little bit rusty at it though because it not only took me longer than I expected to get the picture to look this way, but there really isn’t anything in this picture that turned out quite the way I wanted it to. Though, I know that if I spent a few more hours fiddling with a few things I would absolutely end up where I would like this to be.

To start off with, I grabbed a rock texture for the planet straight from Google image search (though by the time I was done with it it wouldn’t be recognizable) but at some point it would be fun to built a texture from a photograph of something from where I live. However, I’m not sure if my camera would produce a high enough quality image to use. So maybe I’ll just stick with Google images that fit my criteria.

All in all, I’m very happy with how this turned out. I feel that I could probably do an entire year of “cosmos” themed artwork, and I probably should. I still might need a little more convincing that I wouldn’t regret it after a week, or a month, or even half way through 365 days. But with still a few months left of my current 365 day project, I still have plenty of time to figure it all out.
