The Angles: Day 285

The Library by Robert Chapman

It doesn’t feel like I got much done today, despite spending over an hour working on this picture. It’s just that those damn books take so long to do. I’ve got a lot quicker at it, and found a few extra shortcuts as well, but it still takes a long time to get them to look the way I want them to. Especially those books on the right shelf! They’re on a completely different angle so I have to spend extra time with those ones.

I also tried adding some scratch marks to the wall on the right because I feel it looks bare. The marks didn’t look right however, so I’ll have to work on that another day. However, I did add some bits of detail to the rug on the corners there. Does it look okay? For now, I think it will suffice. But I may have to go back and edit it a little bit down the road.

Using the gradient tool in Photoshop these past couple weeks or so has been a very useful learning experience. I’m trying to find a good balance between going overboard and relying on it too much, and keeping a consistent feel or style to my artwork. If I use it too much it doesn’t look natural (to me at least) and if I only use it in a couple spots, it really stands out and doesn’t match everything else.

Overall, I’m very content with this new style I’ve appropriated. I’m absolutely going to keep doing what I’ve been doing and whenever I decide to try my hand at that web comic I’ve been talking about for a long while now, I’ll most likely use this type of style for it.

Looks great Robert! Every bit of detail goes a long way 🙂

    • Thanks! I’m actually not in a rush at all to finish it. It should end up with a whole lot more detail even when its finished.
