Day 150 – Greatest Hits

Hello! I’ve been doing this for 150 days in a row now, and I wanted to do a greatest hits post of my favorites so far from day 101-150. So, here we go:

___________________

Day 105

Day 105

I haven’t tried to capture very many sunsets this year (yet), but I really love this one. It has that wonderful gradient from blue to orange, from top to bottom. It’s just really perfect!

Day 108

Day 108

I absolutely can’t forget about this one. Since taking this picture I’ve learned so much more about my camera, and how to film water. However, this one still turned out really amazing. I remember it was a really great day for taking photos.

Day 120

Day 120

I was trying to figure out why I love this photo so much, and I think it’s because I figured out just how to focus on that single flower. The rest is a bit out of focus. Since I took this photo, I have yet to nail down how to do it.

Day 131

Day 131

As far as big buildings go, this is probably the nicest we have in town. It’s pretty massive, and has an interesting shape. I feel that I got the perfect angle to really show off just how weirdly shaped our structures can be. Pretty neat ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 134

Day 134

This photo is absolutely one of my all-time favorites. Despite only doing this photography thing for a few months now, I feel like this is one of the images that I’ll always look back on and remember.

Day 137

Day 137

This photo might not be ultimately the best or anything, but it does signify my first night out with my new tripod. From here on out I was able to get steady night shots in stunning detail. My favorite night photo is coming up here in a sec!

Day 141

Day 141

The bench. This was when I was really starting to believe in this whole “rule of thirds” thing, where you imagine a grid over your image and try to line up your central object with intersecting points on it. I thought it was a strange concept, but people have really seemed to react positively more often to the images where I try to do this. So I’ll attempt to keep it up in the future.

Day 142

Day 142

Now this … this is a photo. Easily my favorite of the year. After taking this picture and going on my little adventure to get it, I’m now a huge fan of night photos. I remember a year or two ago I was taking some photos at night with my tablet, and they were just awful. That thing is terrible at taking low light images, and I was starting to think my camera wasn’t going to cut it either. Then I discovered some night-only settings that change the shutter speed, and purchased my tripod. Now all I want to do is go out every night and take more photos!

Day 145

Day 145

I watched that movie, Logan, in black and white. Ever since then I’ve had a new appreciation for monochrome imagery. Even though I don’t have a full grasp on when and when not to use black and white, I’ll likely continue messing around with it for the rest of the year. Sometimes it just works better as an image when you keep it simple and remove all the color and enhance the blacks and white tones.

Day 148

Day 148

Now we’re pretty much caught up to the present with this photo. This one was from just a few days ago, and it’s easily one of my best day time photographs. In my opinion at least. There’s just something really funky with that tree trunk and green leafy combo. For me, it almost looks like a cartoon. The colors are extra bright, and it’s in direct contrast to the dark trunks. Love it.

Day 100 – Greatest Hits

This collection of my favorite images from the past 100 days was written to go along with my Patreon post. Here’s the link to it, just in case you ended up here first ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for checking this out. Here’s to another 100 days of photos!

My favorite tree! There’s just something incredibly overwhelming about this tree. It’s about a block from where I live, and I’ve already used it as my photography subject at least twice this year.

Zigzag twigs. I still feel that some of my most pronounced photographs are of branches. Each tree is unique, and when I toss the shot into Photoshop and mess around, I always end up with something cool.

New camera. I’m at the point now where I’m very confident with it. I’m still figuring out new features and settings that I can use to my advantage, but I feel that I have a pretty good grasp on everything. Could never go back to using the integrated tablet camera I stared the year using.

Mixing art and photographs. I feel that after this year is completed, this is the type of stuff that I’ll get good at making. I’ll take photos, and make some (hopefully) interesting artwork with it.

Creepy school. I still have to go back there and take more shots! Something I’ve found out about myself this year is that I really love the creepy stuff. I’ve taken pictures of old buildings, alleyways, and dark hallways. I would love all my photos to get emotional reactions from people, but I don’t think they always do. Just sometimes ๐Ÿ™‚

Berries! Spring is here, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Sometimes the rain is a bit annoying, but I’ve been making due. At least my fingers aren’t freezing up from the cold anymore while I try to work a camera.

This building! I should travel to more populated parts of the city and get some more photos like this one. I love tall buildings, and there are a few somewhat near me that I would love to walk to on a nice day, and get some interesting shots.

Day 97

This is completely opposed to the previous image above, as this one is super colorful. It was a relatively recent photo that I took of a flooded playground. Generally I think I like the muted photos better, but sometimes color just pops and those shots are cool too ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 86

I’m not all that excited about the photo for today! The color is alright and everything, but I’m just not all that enthused about it. Depending on the weather, I really want to find some time tomorrow to go to a new spot in my area. Maybe I’ll find something new. I want to get excited about taking pictures!

Sometimes I think I have something cool as I’m shooting, only to find that later on when I return home to really get a good look at them, they aren’t so great. I’m pretty sure that the pictures I’m posting are actually relatively decent, I’ve just taken so many photos (literally hundreds over the past few months) that I think I’m a little burnt out.

An idea I had before I even got started on this 365 day challenge, was that I could do some drawings on paper – like designs or doodles or whatever – and then take some photos of those. I still think that could be a cool idea, and it might be something to try in the coming days. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow!

Day 85

Here’s another long photo for the day. I’m not sure how I’ll share it on Instagram with it being rectangle and all, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. I’ll find a decent square angle that Instagram will accept.

Earlier today I spent a lot of time updating my Year of Creative Habits 2017 page. It took an hour or two (I didn’t keep track of the time, but it was awhile!) to finish it all up, but it seems to be looking good! It’s nice to have all my artwork and photographs on a single page for easy viewing. Click an image to make it larger, click the day number to view the original post for that day.

Here’s the direct link to that pageย ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 84

It’s a bit rainy today. I decided it would be a fun idea to add a bit of art to my photograph today, and I’m quite happy with how it turned out! It almost looks like a huge looming sun in the background. I also like how the colors turned out on the top and the bottom there. Although, I guess I could have made the orange a bit more orange-y!

I was contemplating a few things last night; I wonder if it would be a good idea to put every post on my Patreon. I mean, that’s where I get my financial support, and I really like that platform overall. Though my stuff is easy to find (right? I feel it is), I still think having it all in a single place is beneficial to everyone. What do you think? I’m not seriously considering this yet, but the thought did cross my mind. There has been some confusion in the past on where to find my new posts. So perhaps a change would be best.

Thoughts?

Day 83

I love this photo. I gave it a kind of steely look after I picked it as my favorite photo for the day. The whites are very white! I like how all the objects are pretty balanced as well; angled building on the left, straight lines across the bottom, and the building in the back is straight as well. Sky in the middle to top right ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel like it could be straight out of a magazine or something.

It was almost 20c out today! I was finally able to spend a few hours just walking around, visiting people, and taking photos, without worrying too much about the weather. I got a whole bunch of really good shotsย that might be good to use thisย weekend as it looks like there’s rain in the forecast. If it’s not too bad out, maybe I’ll get some interesting rainy photos (as long as there’s no chance of my camera getting wet), otherwise I’ll look over the shots I got today and use some of those ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 82

Lately it seems that I end up with photographs that are really quite narrow. The actual size of the image, I mean. I really like the looks of these as you kind of scan over it from the top to the bottom, or from the left to the right. More so, at least, than one normally does. The problem with this though is that images like these ones don’t fit the image size criteria for Instagram. When I go to share the image it comes back with errors. I then have to cut some of the image off (usually my doodles in the corner get removed) in order to share it.
