Zero Battle Complete: Day 296

Zero Battle Complete by Robert Chapman

Well, today I’m pretty excited to get this post… posted. I’m extremely happy with how this Zero Battle picture turned out. I’m sure I could spend another few days making changes and editing tiny details and whatever, but ultimately that wouldn’t really change the vision. Besides, I’m happy that my vision has been realized as it has. As usual, I’ll move right onto something new tomorrow. Although I am loving the science fiction genre, any suggestions for what I should try next?

I wonder if those buildings are crooked because the aliens on this planet are so dull and boring that this is how they express themselves creatively?

I was trying to get some motion blur going on with the red ship, but I couldn’t get anything working out quite right. It looks terrific the way it is right now, I think. I’m actually getting a proper video game vibe from this picture. I guess that’s all I was hoping for really. So, mission accomplished.

I also get a bit of a Spore feeling from this. Anyone remember the game Spore? Hell, anyone remember Maxis? The company that made it. They aren’t around anymore. The Sims was the last franchise they worked on, as far as I know (not the newest Sim City, I don’t think), and I guess another studio under Electronic Arts took over their franchises, if it’s any of them are still around that is. I know the fourth Sims game was released a couple years back or so, but I haven’t heard anything since then. My favorite Maxis game would definitely be Sim City on SNES. That soundtrack is so good!

Okay, so I was just thinking of an idea. I don’t think I’m done with this picture yet. I think I’m going to go ahead and try to make it look cell shaded. That basically means having a black outline around everything. It might not be possible – or even just extremely difficult – with the layer structure I have going on, but I’m definitely curious how that would look.

Okay, so that’s it from me today. I’ve been working on this picture for about 4 or 5 hours today and it’s already 10pm. So time to wrap this up! So, again, what do you think I should work on next? I might take a break from these Photoshop drawings for a few days. Seeing as my 300th day is coming up soon. After that I could go back to starting big projects like this one.
