Art, for me, is all about discovery. All my life I’ve created simple art projects for myself that I could finish in less than an hour. It wasn’t until I started this Year of Creative Habits challenge that I was able to occasionally try my hand at projects that take several days and many hours to complete. Oftentimes I’ve had to kind of force myself to finish these projects. Gather up some patience. Really though, the reason I have trouble sticking with projects and holding onto that enthusiasm is once I get the basic structure of my idea down on paper, there it is. I’ve already figured out, usually within that first hour, exactly what I’m going to do with the rest of it. I’ve already discovered all there is.

Horizon Continued: Day 318
For today’s work I worked a little bit on the winged creature, and then completely finished the female protagonist. Working on this project makes me realize how good I can be with the mixer brush in Photoshop. Sure, I’m trying to replicate a piece of artwork that already exists (from the video game Horizon: Zero Dawn) but I’m just using it as a rough guide so I keep everything in proportion. It’s kind of like coloring in a coloring book, except all you have is that black outline, and you’re filling it in how you see fit.
Horizon: Day 317
Today I decided to just paint an already existing piece of artwork, but still add my own little touches as I go along. Here is the image I’m using as a guide. This video game, Horizon: Zero Dawn, was just announced last week for the Playstation 4. I thought it would be fun to go over every detail and paint it in my own way. You really get an appreciated for the attention to detail in these big budget artwork pieces when you’re zoomed in and looking at the original.
Final Fantasy VII Pattern Complete : Day 316
It’s not all too often that I finish a piece of artwork and when I look at it as a whole completed image, I’m a little bit in awe. It’s a strange feeling because I obviously made the thing! It’s pretty amazing that you can pour hours into a project and then once it’s done you can really look it over and appreciate it.
Ol’ Spiky Head: Day 315
Cloud is finished! Forget SEO, the title for this post is “Ol’ Spiky Head”. Now all that’s left is to finish the rest of the city, which is mostly hidden behind Cloud anyways. Should be just another day or two before it’s all finished. There are a few bits here and there that bug me a little, but I plan on going back and doing some editing later on.
Purple Pants: Day 314
When I’m working meticulously – all zoomed in – I start thinking that maybe this project isn’t going to turn out so good. I keep working anyways, a little bit at a time. Steady as she goes. Then comes time to save my work and prepare it for posting. When I look at it in it’s default size at the top of this post, I realize just how perfect it is. This is turning out better than I had even hoped it would. The little lights on the city, the lighter bits at the top, and even those purple pants, they all look pretty great.
FFVII Continued: Day 313
Now we’re making some progress, eh? I think my favorite piece of this so far is the guard part of the hilt because it has a really nice shape, in comparison to the rest of the sword. I can possibly do better with the blade, but for now I think everything looks really good. It’s going to stay the way it is until I get further along with the character himself, and the industrial city in the background.
