Succeeding With Patreon: Day 221

So I pledged $10 to a fellow Patreon artist last night. His named is Ray Dillon and I briefly chatted with him the day I set up my own Patreon page. He seemed like a fellow worth pledging because he genuinely seems to want to help other artists. See, Patreon has a reward system for people that get involved and help support other artists, and my reward for pledging the $10 is to have some of my work shared online by Ray to help get “more eyes on your art”. It’s a pretty spectacular idea actually, and it’s definitely something I would LOVE to be able to do for someone else. Someday. When I have 9,000+ followers on social media like Ray does, perhaps.

Inspirational Level Design: Day 220

Blaster Master fan art by Robert Chapman

Oh wow, after spending hours working on this in Photoshop, all zoomed in painting each pixel individually, when I see it like this all zoomed out it really looks fantastic! Even though I’m not creating my own unique creatures, painted scenery, or crazy abstract things, I think what I’ve been working on for the past couple weeks has got me more excited than anything. Starting with that Castlevania title screen I did, and now this Blaster Master in-game picture, I’ve never been more excited to get back to my drawing each day.

More Nintendo Fan Art: Day 219

Blaster Master fan art by Robert Chapman

Just a brief update for today because I’m pretty busy. As you can see, I got started on my next Nintendo fan art piece. This one is from another one of my favorite Nintendo games, and I think I’m (so far) doing it some justice. It’s not a title screen, but rather an in-game screen shot from when I was playing it last night.

I have some other games lined up already, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Guardian Legend, Mega Man, and Crystalis. All games I grew up playing and would love to show them some love by painting (to the best of my ability) some title screens and/or some in-game screenshots. We’ll see how this one turns out. Any idea what game this is? Here’s a hint; It’s Blaster Master!

Full Blog Transparency: Day 217

This picture is coming along really nicely! I also got a fantastic idea, though I’m not sure if I can fully realize the idea properly. I want to take some in-game NES screen shots and paint those up. I have no idea if they’ll end up looking okay, but it would be fun. Here’s the idea proper; start painting a screen and for the first day or so, once I post it, it might not be fully apparent what game it’s from. After a few days though it would click for some people, I’m sure. Like I mentioned, I may not be able to realize this fully because on the first day there might be some obvious features (like from Zelda or Mario, for instance) that a gamer of any age would recognize. After I’m done with this StarTropics one, I’ll jump right into another and see how it goes.

Patreon: Day 216

So, I’m officially set up on Patreon. I’ve mentioned Patreon a time or two before on this website, and I didn’t think I was going to use it. Today though, I spent the day setting up my page, and making sure all the proper information was filled out to the best of my ability. It took a long time, but I think everything is in order. I decided to use it because of a very simple question, “Why not?”. There really wasn’t a good reason why I shouldn’t try it out.

Copyright Mess: Day 215

Castlevania-Fullsize1

Well, originally I was pretty excited about working on these title screens because I loved the idea of eventually being able to get them printed out onto different items; like T-shirts and pillow cases. However, it’s not worth even going into it because there ‘might’ be just too many hoops to jump through legally with the potential of copyright issues. I mean, everywhere you go there are fan art t-shirts being sold anyways, but it seems once in awhile someone like Nintendo will go out of their way to crush one of those fans.
