Day 86

I’m not all that excited about the photo for today! The color is alright and everything, but I’m just not all that enthused about it. Depending on the weather, I really want to find some time tomorrow to go to a new spot in my area. Maybe I’ll find something new. I want to get excited about taking pictures!

Sometimes I think I have something cool as I’m shooting, only to find that later on when I return home to really get a good look at them, they aren’t so great. I’m pretty sure that the pictures I’m posting are actually relatively decent, I’ve just taken so many photos (literally hundreds over the past few months) that I think I’m a little burnt out.

An idea I had before I even got started on this 365 day challenge, was that I could do some drawings on paper – like designs or doodles or whatever – and then take some photos of those. I still think that could be a cool idea, and it might be something to try in the coming days. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow!

Day 85

Here’s another long photo for the day. I’m not sure how I’ll share it on Instagram with it being rectangle and all, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. I’ll find a decent square angle that Instagram will accept.

Earlier today I spent a lot of time updating my Year of Creative Habits 2017 page. It took an hour or two (I didn’t keep track of the time, but it was awhile!) to finish it all up, but it seems to be looking good! It’s nice to have all my artwork and photographs on a single page for easy viewing. Click an image to make it larger, click the day number to view the original post for that day.

Here’s the direct link to that page 🙂

Day 84

It’s a bit rainy today. I decided it would be a fun idea to add a bit of art to my photograph today, and I’m quite happy with how it turned out! It almost looks like a huge looming sun in the background. I also like how the colors turned out on the top and the bottom there. Although, I guess I could have made the orange a bit more orange-y!

I was contemplating a few things last night; I wonder if it would be a good idea to put every post on my Patreon. I mean, that’s where I get my financial support, and I really like that platform overall. Though my stuff is easy to find (right? I feel it is), I still think having it all in a single place is beneficial to everyone. What do you think? I’m not seriously considering this yet, but the thought did cross my mind. There has been some confusion in the past on where to find my new posts. So perhaps a change would be best.

Thoughts?

Day 83

I love this photo. I gave it a kind of steely look after I picked it as my favorite photo for the day. The whites are very white! I like how all the objects are pretty balanced as well; angled building on the left, straight lines across the bottom, and the building in the back is straight as well. Sky in the middle to top right 🙂 I feel like it could be straight out of a magazine or something.

It was almost 20c out today! I was finally able to spend a few hours just walking around, visiting people, and taking photos, without worrying too much about the weather. I got a whole bunch of really good shots that might be good to use this weekend as it looks like there’s rain in the forecast. If it’s not too bad out, maybe I’ll get some interesting rainy photos (as long as there’s no chance of my camera getting wet), otherwise I’ll look over the shots I got today and use some of those 🙂

Day 82

Lately it seems that I end up with photographs that are really quite narrow. The actual size of the image, I mean. I really like the looks of these as you kind of scan over it from the top to the bottom, or from the left to the right. More so, at least, than one normally does. The problem with this though is that images like these ones don’t fit the image size criteria for Instagram. When I go to share the image it comes back with errors. I then have to cut some of the image off (usually my doodles in the corner get removed) in order to share it.

Day 81

Hello! Gonna be random and yell GO LEAFS GO!

Ahem

When I was sick there for a week it really messed me up. I have to find some time to get back into my usual creative mode because I just haven’t felt like doing a whole lot of drawing lately. I mean, I’m still doing creative things with my photographs, and I do a little doodle on each one, but I’m talking about the bigger projects.

I’m not going to rush it or force things though. I’ll take my time and see what happens throughout the rest of this week. Maybe an idea will hit me, like something that I just have to put down onto “paper”. Oh! Here’s an idea, during the hockey game tonight (did I mention Go Leafs Go!?) I’ll have my sketchpad handy and do some doodles. Real paper for once! We’ll see what I can come up with. Maybe it’ll spark something.

Day 80

It’s creepy hallway time!

The photographs that I took today of this apartment hallway ended up a little too grainy. So I felt that I had to artify it up a bit. Remove the color, add a bit to the exit sign there, and get some kind of interesting angles going!

It’s kind of funny, you know? I’ve never been all that much of a horror guy. Movies or otherwise. But my absolute favorite thing to photograph is creepy stuff. Well, whether you think some of my stuff is creepy or not, I’m trying real hard to get it to look this way. I wonder if I’ll ever look back at 2017 as the year I discovered this about myself. It’s certainly very new to me! And I’m not trying so hard (yet) to accomplish the dark imagery where I’m doing my research, or figuring out how to best build tension into an image and things like that. I’m just going with what feels right as I’m taking pictures or editing them.
