Connect the Dots: Day 16

Sprawl

Wasn’t able to spend all that much time on this project today, so it’s a work in progress for tomorrow. I really like where it’s going though. Right now it doesn’t look like much, but I have some ideas. Hopefully it turns out.

Posting a bit late today, but I’ve been napping ever since I returned home from my camping weekend. I’ll be recovering over the next few days or so, I think. So, for now, I’m going to post this and be done for the day. Back to sleep!

Hope the Sunburn was Worth it: Day 15

CreepyCrawly

I figured today would be the most difficult day to complete my art and get it posted online. Mainly because of the potential hangover. But also because I would need to find time away from the group to complete it. Not to mention the potential weather problems. However, it’s been such a beautiful day today. I spent a few hours at the beach (toasty) and I don’t expect I’ll have a better drawing experience. Well, for awhile at least. So many inspirations! Figures though, that I draw a creepy crawly.

That’s all I’m going to write today though. Gonna go back and track down the group. See what trouble I can get into. Adventure!

EDIT: This post is for August 23rd. The internet at the campground didn’t allow me to upload my post. Just continued to give me errors. So now that I’m home, I’ve posted it.

Gel Pens: Day 14

Space-Alien

Hello, people! Didn’t expect to do my daily art post before I left for the weekend. I figured I would be way too busy when I got to the campground, setting up tents and whatever, so I thought it was best to get it done before I left. Just a quick update today though.

I’m giving those gel pens another try. Turned out much better this time, though some issues still persisted. If I go really slow when I ink over the pencil, it turns out pretty good. However, the slower I go the more likely I am to make mistakes. As you can notice in a few spots in today’s picture.

Also, I’ve started taking pictures of my work near a window in the daylight and what a different that makes. Huge improvement over what I was doing before. Just turning a lot of lights on and lighting up the picture with artificial light just wasn’t cutting it. So this is how I’ll be doing it in the future.

Day 14 in the bag!

Globby Ink: Day 13

wpid-p_20140821_134821.jpg

Well, this kind of sucks. I went out last night to grab some nice black gel pens to ink my sketches, and the pens don’t really do any of the things I wanted them to do. I can’t use them to ink over pencil because they stop working almost right away, like any regular ball point pen. I only used the pen over a 2H octo-guy drawing a couple of times, and now the pen doesn’t produce consistent ink trails. Quite annoying. Also, the ink globs at certain points (Pretty sure it’s because I had to go back and ink again in spots) and so it smeared in a few places. My pencils also pick up some of the ink and that produces small black marks.

Sigh! Not happy with my purchase. Perhaps next I should try felt tipped pens. I’ll maybe do some research before I get more. Also, I completely forgot to look for different kinds of drawing paper while I was out last night. I think my paper still needs an upgrade.

I’m going away this weekend, so starting tomorrow I’m going to have to do my drawing wherever I am. Then get a net connection and post it. I probably won’t be writing all that much while I’m away. We’ll see though. Camping! And partying. Drinking. Sleeping. This is going to be a challenge me thinks.

Cheated a Bit: Day 12

Black characters photograph

Day 12 already? I cheated a little with this one as I started drawing this late last night. I knew I wasn’t going to be home all that much today, so I’m glad I got some of it done then.

I found better paper to use today. It’s perfect for colored pencils as the colors blend really well when compared with the paper I’ve been using. Now that I’ve discovered some better paper to use, I really should figure out a new way to take these photos. The colors and details just don’t come through very well. I’m using my Asus Memo HD7 tablet to take the pictures. It’s an HD camera, but I find the quality is only decent when under direct sunlight. Outdoor shots are best overall.

I might head out today to pick up some new drawing materials. I’d like some of those gel pens the kids are using these days. I love to properly ink my pencil sketches, and regular black pens just don’t work very well when used over the pencil. So we’ll see what I can come up with for next time.

Practicing Shading Techniques: Day 11

doodle phtograph

I just did a few doodles today, as I was pretty much just trying out some shading tehniques. However, I discovered that the paper I’m using just doesn’t work well with colored pencils. They just don’t meld correctly when I try to mix them. I have some other sketchbooks around somewhere, I’ll have to try them out later today.

It’s funny, I’m finding that I enjoy working with pencils and paper more than my digital methods. I keep trying to go back to my drawing tablet, but I’m having an easier time getting my ideas down on actual paper. I’ll keep up the real drawing for awhile yet, I’m sure.

Next up, trying out some different types of paper.

A Gift for a Lady: Day 10

tentacle monster in a flower drawing

So I did end up adding more to my work from yesterday. Once again, quite happy with how it turned out. It’s a flower! I can just imagine how this octo-flower thing would look all closed up, like a black bulb in the center of the flower. Ready to eat unsuspecting people! Yup, it’s a big person-eating flower.

Alright, well.. I actually made this for someone. I’m hoping the color isn’t too much. Maybe I should of left it black and white. I dunno. I made this for someone I’ve never even spoken to before. She lives (I hope) in an apartment building near me. Same building my mom lives in. Pretty sure I know what floor the girl is on as well. I left the drawing in an envelope addressed to her. Well, since I don’t even know her name (and the drawing was anonymous) I left it in an envelope with some details that are quite obviously, and uniquely, her. Appropriate stuff, of course. Hell, I don’t even think anyone else in that building knows what a “labret” even is.

Anyways, no idea if it got to her, I just know that the envelope is gone. Someone grabbed it, at least. I might do another one in a month or something. We’ll see if I’m brave enough.

Just so everyone knows here, I don’t normally do creepy stuff like this. (Was it creepy?) Ever, actually. But honestly (and I do realize how sappy this might seem. I dunno) I see her around a lot, but never smiling, so I thought that if there’s even a chance this could…. well, I hope you get the picture. Ugh. I’m not finishing that sentence.
