Carving Shapes: Day 46

Early Emergence

I kinda surprised myself. I was just trying to figure out what I wanted to draw for my daily drawing. Then decided to go with something on Photoshop as I was already using it today. Then this kinda happened. The detail is awesome!

I was just drawing some blackness, then carving it out with the eraser into shapes. They kind of looked like arms so I kept drawing different things. I then made the decision that the blackness up top was the ground. Yuppers, ground on the top of the page there. So it’s now going to be dirt and we’re going to have lots of things reaching out of it! Should be awesome. I dunno, we’ll see what happens!

I’ll keep working on it over the next few days or so. It’s going to turn out to be a Halloween inspired piece. Pretty cool. You’ll definitely need to click for the full sized image to really see what’s going on.

Halloween Postcard Collage: Day 45

Halloween Compilation

A good friend asked me to help her create some Halloween cards the other day. She offered up some examples from some older drawings I did and I went ahead and did some editing to add some nice colors. They turned out excellent, but I switched one of her suggestions out for a newer demon guy I did a couple weeks back. I think he fits a little better. The other guy was pretty goofy.

I threw them all together in a collage today and I think they look quite smashing! The colors go together pretty well, with the yellow maybe being the only one I might change. Perhaps to orange. We’ll see what she says when she has time to check it out. She might even want the older drawing back in there instead of the demon guy. We’ll see.

Abstract Flower: Day 44

"Night" created by Robert Chapman

I have no clue what this is supposed to be exactly. For awhile there it was looking a bit like an abstract rose. However, that wasn’t my intention from the start so I didn’t go in that direction. Even though I was a bit tempted to draw a stem and a leaf. Instead, I kept adding to it and filling the image out in a circular pattern. I was going to leave it at that, but then I decided I still felt like adding more. So I added the “flame” looking stuff around the outside and finally the circles at the bottom.

Once again I really wish I could add color. As I keep saying, this paper I’m using currently just doesn’t work well with my colored pencils. One of these days I’ll get to purchasing some new paper!

Chupon Typhoon: Day 43

Chupon

Happy Saturday everyone. Was a pretty great day today. Warm weather with not a whole lot to do. Just relaxed with a buddy for most of the day. Went for a nice walk earlier in the afternoon. Might be one of the last really warm days this year. We’ll see though.

Not sure why I decided to draw Final Fantasy VI’s Chupon/Typhoon character. I think I just wanted to do something creepy. Like a monster or something. Sketched a few things that didn’t turn out so great, then I thought of Chupon. I looked up a picture to get the details right. Then tossed that sketch away and just drew him all over again. This time in my own style just going by memory. Turned out much better!

Yoshitaka Amano’s style is pretty difficult to replicate as his brush strokes look so random and all over the place! He has an absolutely insane amount of detail in all of his pieces. It’s amazing actually. My version of this guy looks better than what I was trying to do before.

Hail Hydra: Day 41

Hydra-ish

Hello, people. Welcome to day number 41. A much more productive day than yesterday. I was very hungover (so very nauseous) yesterday, so I didn’t feel like doing anything at all. However, I got a love seat that comes apart into two reclining chairs, and today I spent a bunch of time setting all of it up. I even have a nice spot to do my drawings now!

I was playing Diablo III: Reaper of Souls on my PS3 today when I got an idea to draw something involving a skull. I was thinking of creating a creature of sorts at first, but then the idea clicked; Hydra. Hydra is an evil organization from the Captain America book and move series. I really like the symbol they use, but I didn’t want to just find a picture of it and copy it, so I came up with something unique. I think it turned out pretty good. I want to color it all red though, but I’ve used up all of  paper I had before. Now I’m just using the other sketch pad I had to start with. Colors don’t work so well on this paper I’m using. So I need to go out sometime and buy some better paper.

Anyways, that’s all for today. It’s really bugging me that I can’t use colors right now (well, I still have my digital stuff, of course) until I buy some better paper. So I’ll have to do that soon!

Slides Continued: Day 40

Somehow I got my “Day 40” mixed up. Originally I had it set to yesterday, but after I posted my daily drawing I noticed that I didn’t have a “Day 39”, so now today is officially the 40th day of my creative habit. Which is quite fitting as this is the last of my slides from the project I was working on.

I’m just going to keep this short, as I’m feeling under the weather today. The following is the second half of the slides I created!
