Rebirth and Flame! Day 93

Phoenix

So now it’s evidently the Phoenix! Bird of rebirth and flame! Okay, cool. That’s a thing that this has now turned into. I didn’t plan on it at all! But there it is.

The little circle dots are finished! Next up, for tomorrow, is adding color. Orange, red, and yellow, I’m thinking. It should look pretty awesome, but I really do want to try something interesting with color. I’m just not sure what to do. I don’t really want to just simply slap on color here and there with no pattern or interesting idea. So I have to figure out what I’m doing before I begin adding color all willy nilly and when it’s too late come up with a clever idea.

Dots Everywhere: Day 92

Dots Design

Today these abstract dots look an awful lot like a dragon. But I’m sure by tomorrow’s post it’ll look like something very different. Or perhaps not. Who knows? I probably should know, but I do not. 😉

I have a really great idea for coloring when I finish creating the shape. Which might be as soon as tomorrow. I have a color pattern in my head that I want to try, and I hope it turns out looking alright when I’m finished. Because so far it’s pretty neat.

Flow: Day 91

Dots Design

This design is really starting to take on an organic feel. It’s staring to look very creature-like. Not entirely by accident, mind you. As I was drawing it I was being compelled to make it look like it was flowing. Like it was alive. I’m enjoying this process very much. I think I can squeeze a few more days out of this as I still would need to add color eventually.

I think that’s about all I’ll write for this post. It’s already getting late! This is the latest I’ve posted in awhile, I think. I’ll be trying not to make a habit of it because it’s supposed to be a routine daily post where I draw around the same time every day. That way subconsciously you’re kicking in your creativity at roughly the same time each day.

Facebook? Day 90

Dots

It’s definitely not unexpected, but this is taking quite a long time to make any real progress, and is totally killing my wrist in the process! However, it’s looking great so far, for an experiment, of course. I only have a few ideas of where I’m going with this. Either make interesting patterns as I go along, as I’ve already done a bit so far, or fill the page with circular “pixels” and color them in to show an image. I was thinking about those NES title screens maybe. For right now though, I’m totally digging the patterns.

As soon as I get my laptop back into commission I’m going to look into starting a Facebook page specifically for my artwork. Then friends, fans, and family could like the page if they want the blog updates. I should also try my hand at weekly mailing lists. I still have a lot of research to do before I start either of these ideas. They’re in the works though.

Early Start: Day 89

Straight Spatter

Wow. Tomorrow will be my 90th day in a row doing my first year of creative habits. I won’t spend too much time talking about how amazing it’s been getting this far, as I’ll be looking back and discussing it in detail for my 100th day soon enough! It’s been a great experience though.

After finishing this abstract piece today, I already got started on my next project. I really enjoy experimenting when it comes to creating artwork. And this is no exception. I plan to fill up the entire page and then color individual circles to see if I can make a pattern or something interesting. I hope it turns out to look pretty cool.

Art of Making Money: Day 88

Straight Spatter

I have incorporated a lot of important lifestyle changes into my day-to-day routine this year: I fixed my sleeping schedule, I altered my diet and learned much more about my eating habits, I exercise more, as a result I lost about 30lbs., and, of course, I started making artwork every day.

I was hoping to be bringing in more money this year. Which brings me to something else I would like to add to my routines: Put less focus on the end goals, and more on the small daily details that will eventually get me there. If making money with my art is my end goal, then every day I should take time for myself to brainstorm up some ideas of how I should get started. I mean, it’s not like I haven’t inadvertently helped myself out a bit by achieving some small goals, like finally getting set up on Instagram.

Perhaps I should do more planning. I cringe at the idea of planning ahead though, short-term or long-term. I don’t want to be committed to anything I may not be able to succeed at. Because of this, I can’t imagine myself failing at anything. This mindset helps keep me stress free. However, the obvious downside is that I don’t have any major risk taking achievements. So there’s some internal conflict going on that I would like to figure out before this year is up.

Would Anyone Buy This? Day 87

Straight Spatter

I’m not too sure where I’m going with this piece right now. I’ve been looking at some amazing abstract paintings lately and so with that firmly stuck in my head, this drawing came out of those thoughts. It’s not very “painty”, but I see some inspiration here. I’m not finished with it yet though. I, somehow, want to add drippy paint looking touches here and there. I just need to figure out how and where.

This piece, so far, isn’t a good example, but I’ve been thinking about taking some of these and framing them. I bet they would look nice. Some of them anyways. Perhaps I could sell them. I would ask myself the obvious question, “But, would anyone buy this?” However, I won’t ask. I don’t think an artist ever knows for sure until someone else asks, “Hey, can I like… buy that from you? It would look good in my office.”
